Who wants to read a 1,000 page book (although I have read an 800 page book and loved it).Terryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17478393430722574447noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4994072470312639837.post-65693117556295383002019-06-18T07:24:34.341-07:002019-06-18T07:24:34.341-07:00I still keep a file of what I cut from a book, but...I still keep a file of what I cut from a book, but, as you said, it's really only for things that might be useful in this book. It's rare I can use something in another book, and I write series.

On the other hand, I don't put everything into every book. It's not because I'm afraid I'll run out of stuff, but because the book would be 1,000 pages long. I write mostly procedurals and I'm always looking for interesting but quickly resolved cases I can use to show that real cops don't work only one case at a time. If I kept adding them them as I came up with them there would be no end to it. Those I keep in separate files and work through them when putting together the next book, to see which will fit.Dana Kinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01350344882342624735noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4994072470312639837.post-14566900086374271172019-06-18T06:57:27.399-07:002019-06-18T06:57:27.399-07:00Paul, we are all the worse for loss of your golden...Paul, we are all the worse for loss of your golden words. Like some people in our lives they were right for a certain time and place and, in this case, story. But I will also do the other thing you do and save pieces I've cut to use in a different place in that work. But if they don't find a place there they are lost to eternity and the world will just have to suffer their loss ;-) .Paul D.
