Where would you go and why?

There are so many fabulous places in the world, but the
point of a retreat is to be inward looking, thinking about the writing,
inspired to write and ACTUALLY WRITING! I can’t cope with any distractions when
I’m writing. Dark, silent rooms (yeah, yeah, with the lights on!) work best for
me.
I’d have to have Internet access, to allow for research. I’d
like all my food brought to me, and not have to think at all about keeping my
digs clean and tidy – I’d like that done for me, please. And I’d like to be
able to join in writing-unrelated society when I want to.

I’d like lots of days at sea when I can stare at the horizon (almost as good as a
writing room at night) and some interesting ports of call with historical
interest, galleries, a bit of shopping, you know the sort of thing. Oh, and
good weather, please. Yes, that’ll do me, thanks. So maybe a couple of trips
from Vancouver to the Hawaiian Islands? That takes about two weeks with lots of sea days (I did it for my honeymoon), so I’d just
stay on board and do it twice! I won't even need to change butler. Thanks for the offer…I’ll take it!

Ahhh, a cruise sounds delightful. But I'm not certain how much writing I would get done. I would be too keen on looking out my porthole. Happy writing, Cathy.
This does sound appealing! Room service and a butler would definitely help.
Oh Robin....think bigger...no porthole for me (!) but an expansive private deck with loungers, a table and chairs and, of course, a "dunking" pool for the hotter parts of the day. Then retreating to my air conditioned suite of rooms where I can work at my desk while I enjoy the sight of the wake trailing behind the ship....and I'm already relaxed :-)
Yes, Rae....room service, no need to leave at all, and a butler to call upon when I feel the need for some nibbles, or a fancy cocktail. :-)
I've never been on a cruise but this sounds like the perfect getaway; relaxing, decadent, but still conducive to writing. I might have to try this sometime...
This sounds lovely, and I think if I get some kind of writing routine going I would be good every day--but if I didn't start a routine right away I'm thinking I'd end up making an endless round of brainstorming laps around the decks, followed by a Kindle session in one of the loungers. Not that it would be unproductive--I could use all that brainstorming to have a writing frenzie when I return home. Ahhh, feeling relaxed already.
Hello Mia - yep, relax to the max! It really is decadent to not have to attend to the realities of life, but, yes, that's what would allow me to write, write, write :-)
Ha! Ritter - you've obviously spotted the possible problem with my plan....for someone who enjoys laps around the deck. Luckily for me, I don't feel compelled to do that sort of thing (hence hitting the gym, very early/late thus avoiding crowds and the sun!!). But you're right - a routine would have to be established :-)
